I recently received an email from a student at the University of Colorado asking for survey participants. If you would like to participate in her survey, please read her message below:
Hello, My name is Maegen Jaeger, a graduate student from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. I am reaching out to you in the hope that you, your instructors and your students will voluntarily participate in a survey research study that I am conducting. The purpose of this study is to gather information regarding injury in martial arts schools in the United States. This study will consist of a short survey concerning the injuries sustained during the practice of martial arts and the conditions in which they occurred. This survey can easily be completed in less than 5 minutes on a phone or computer. It is meant only for adults, 18 years and older. I have included a link in this email, as well as an attached flyer with a QR code leading to the survey. I ask for your help in sending the link to your students as well as posting the flyer with the QR code in an easily seen spot at your school. Please ask all of your adult students to complete the survey, whether they HAVE or HAVE NOT been injured. Participation in this survey is completely voluntary. If an individual agrees to participate in this study, no identifying, personal information will be gathered. The link to the survey is: https://surveyuccs.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1zyN8MTJI4EL9NI If you or any of your students have any additional questions or concerns regarding participating in this survey, please do not hesitate to contact me, Maegen Jaeger (mjaeger@uccs.edu). I hope you and your students will consider participating in this study! Thank you for your time, Maegen Jaeger Long time friend David Russell was interviewed recently on Martial Arts of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow about his experiences learning aikido under Karl Geis.

Wow! We had an incredible seminar while David Lusk was here from Houston! Tim Larson brought his crew over from Poulsbo and we really polished up our jodo fundamentals. Everyone worked hard, filled their brains, and went home with huge smiles on their faces.
Our regular aikido students got a real treat during their class, too. David worked on helping everyone learn the secrets of throwing with minimal effort whether doing jodo, judo, or aikido. A wonderful time was had by all and we can't wait for the next time we all get together. It was a perfect way to wrap up summer. See you next time! Congratulations, Alex, on your green belt promotion! We're so happy you are a part of our dojo family. You are doing great!
I came across this interview with Jimmie Villarreal, someone I spent mat hours with oh-so-many years ago at seminars hosted by Karl Geis. It's fun to see old friends in print. Way to go, Jimmie! I miss your smile and hope to see you again some day.

It was very exciting to be recognized this way as new members of the Chamber community. Thank you, everyone, for making it so special for us!
Roy and I were recently on the radio talking about Shinju Dojo as new members of the Chamber of Commerce! You can listen to the episode online here:

I recently came across a very interesting website with downloadable copies of the first book on written by Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido on his famous martial art. The book is called "Aikido Maki-no-Ichi." Even though it is written in Japanese, English speakers may find the illustrations interesting.
Check out the website here: https://www.aikidosangenkai.org/blog/aikido-maki-no-ichi-osensei-first-book/ A PDF version of the book itself can be downloaded here: https://www.aikidosangenkai.org/downloads/aikido-maki-no-ichi.pdf I recently came across a very interesting website with a downloadable copy of a book written by Kenji Tomiki, the founder of Tomiki-Ryu Aikido. The book is called, "Judo Taiso – a method of training Aiki no Jutsu through Judo principles," and was first published in 1933. While the book is written in Japanese and is no longer in circulation, the photos and illustrations are of interest universally.
The website with information about the book is: https://www.aikidosangenkai.org/blog/judo-taiso-aiki-no-jutsu-kenji-tomiki/ A PDF version of the book itself can be downloaded here: https://www.aikidosangenkai.org/downloads/judo-taiso-aiki-no-jutsu-kenji-tomiki.pdf |
